Meeting Thomas Jefferson

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas Jefferson.
Well, it was actually an automatic statue, but it talked and seemed like a very real person. Anyway, since I have such an interest in politics, I listened to the statue talk for a while. What the statue said really struck me.
Thomas Jefferson was very proud of what the American Revolution stood for. He believed it stood for the inalienable rights of human beings; life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
The statue continued to say that if a government took away any of its citizens' inalienable rights, the citizens have the right, even the obligation, to take action.
This struck me so hard because I believe that, in today's society, people do not understand the significance of the rights our predecessors gave their lives for, and what our brothers and sisters give their lives for today.
How would people react if the government started revoking their constitutional rights? Would they notice? Would they care?
Because Independence Day is a few days away, I have been reflecting on what it means to me to be an American.
I believe that what Jefferson said over 200 years ago is still exceedingly significant today. Without the rights that the Founding Fathers considered inalienable, America would be a completely different place.
Do my fellow Americans understand how important our rights are?
