Rylee & Ryenne

When one asks a teenager what they did over the summer, he or she will likely get "slept" as the answer. As a typical teenager, I did some sleeping myself.
I remember this one dream that I had where I was being chased by two dragons. Apparently I was in charge of protecting the golden scepter, which both of the dragons wanted. I was chased through the woods when I finally found myself cornered in a quarry.
The dragons took menacing steps towards me, and as I knew there was nowhere else to run, I faced the dragons and accepted my imminent fate.
"Sharidan!" the dragons screamed in unison. It was weird, the dragons had the voices of two little girls.
"Sharidan! It's my turn to play with your phone!" the smaller one screamed.
In a flash, I was transported from this day dream into the living room of two little girls who I babysit.

With a grunt, I give the little one, Ryenne, my phone.
Ryenne is one of the two little girls that I have babysat for the past three summers.
The other one is Rylee, and these girls have impacted my life in a way that nothing else could.
The most important thing that I learned was why my mom was always tired when I was a kid. Taking care of children is difficult!
Typical days included games in the morning, lunch and then the pool.
The games that we played included "Trouble," "Monopoly" and "Slamwhich." Because of playing these games so often, I had to buy them for myself.
Lunch was always a fun mix of hollering at them to eat while making Ryenne's lunch while having to watch many complicated gymnastics routines and then rushing over to the pool.
The first year we had together, there was only one pool available to us: the pool across the street. Looking back, I have no idea how we survived going there every day. That pool is a zero-depth entry that at the deepest is three and a half feet.
This year, we had three pools available to us. My neighborhood pool which goes to five and a half feet, and a pool in a neighborhood that is adjacent to them, which has a slide.

Keeping these girls entertained was often very challenging. I equipped myself with pool toys, chocolate-covered gummy bears and my bargain of more time with them.
I have many memories with them that make me laugh. One is of Ryenne twerking, another of Rylee freaking out while holding a frog.
We tried our best at making multicolored cookies, scavenger hunts, numerous crafts and random science experiments that I found. We've made things explode, fizz, burn and melt. We've gone from planting seeds one minute to stuffing Mentos in a Coke bottle the next.
Looking back, I miss every minute of being with them. Even the boring days that I wish would end I took for granted.
Like with anyone, we had our ups and downs. There were fun days and boring days. There were days when my patience was thin. However, overall I have had a great experience with these girls, and I truly consider them my friends, and they're like my little sisters.
I have never told them that at the end of each summer, there are always a few tears rolling down my face as I leave.
